The Strait Gate and the Narrow Way
The Bible verse referenced under the hand which points to the open door on the chart reads: " The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." (John 1:29)
The verse on the door, records words spoken by this same Jesus: "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." (John 10 :9). Note, the phrase "and shall go in and out, and find pasture" does not mean going back out onto the Broad Way. Once saved then saved forever. The verse on the narrow way is taken from the Sermon on the Mount and reads: "Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 7:14)
Taken together these three verses point us to Jesus Christ as the One who gave His life as a sacrifice for the sin of the world, the One who is the door to salvation. The way to be on right terms with God and be assured of heaven at the end of the road. Sin is what separates us from God and we are born into this world separated from God and must be born again spiritually to be connected to Him . The remedy for sin that God has provided is the death on the cross of His Son Jesus Christ that His love and pardon may be extended to sinners without compromising His righteousness. Our responsibility is to acknowledge that we are sinners and to personally accept Christ's work on the cross as the only remedy. This is what we do when we head the call to "Behold the Lamb of God" , turn from the Broad Way and enter through the door (Christ) that leads to life.
Note that is called "the strait (narrow) gate (door)" and " the narrow way. " This is to point us not only to Christ, but to Christ alone. There is no other way to be be saved from the penalty of sin and to be right with God. " Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6) and as Peter noted - "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12).
